Hi all, thought Id just give you all a quick report of the Sunday teams game.

A great day for cricket, with a tense finish, which we just lost in the last over, a fantastic effort from a really young team.

We batted first and Chris and Laurie set up the innings nicely with a good opening stand, once Chris had battled his way through his hangover and dispersed the alcohol fumes from his helmet, he looked every bit the class act we know he is.

Thank you to Amy Haynes for rescuing Oli from his arduous shift at Carsington serving ice creams to race him over to Ashover, it was much appreciated.

We finished on 131, we had to ask everyone to push it along at the end, but young Will Glossop and Sam Haynes made brilliant contributions, moving through the gears to give us a defendable total. Will finished not out on 24 and Sam hit some glorious shots on his way to a brilliant 29, which would have been more had he not been selflessly trying to push the score along in the last few overs.

And what an opening spell from Wirksworths very own golden boy Mr Luke Eaton, hair flowing in the breeze, those long legs somehow managing to keep his body upright, and Barney Tanner, gritty and determined, they reducing the hosts to 10 for 4. Unfortunately, we couldn't winkle out their captain, who eventually steered them to victory. Despite that a great bowling performance from all the youngsters, Including Will, Sam and Oli.

There was some questionable umpiring, i'm not sure the old boy could see right to the end of the pitch and some fairly obvious LBS went unrewarded. Laurie had a good day behind the stumps and got the captain out with a brilliant stumping, but to everyones surprise the square leg umpire (ashover player stand in) wasnt really looking and didnt give it. If that had been given (his foot was clearly miles off the ground) we would probably have gone onto win.

Some great determination in the field and Theo covered a huge amount of ground on many occasions to really keep the runs down.

Anyhow, a tense game, played in a good spirit, our youngsters really turned up and put in a performance we all should be proud of. Well done to them.

In slight contrast, Ashover, played some youngsters, who didnt get to bowl and didnt get to bat. Shame on them.

Well done everyone, a fab day out and I hope you all enjoyed it and it made you eager to come back for more next week.

As Chris Captain fantastic Howard put it, one day your out for nowt, next day you can be a hero, thats why cricket is such an unbelievable game.

Have fun in the week and lets see you all back next weekend.
