What an end to the 2025 season. Yesterday the 1st X1 beat Denby to be crowned CHAMPIONS of DIV 3N and were promoted to DIV 2 for next season. This has been achieved with a team of loyal, mostly “home grown” and young players – this was our objective when we asked The League to reset in 2023. This decision has worked extremely well, allowing players in all our teams, both younger and older, to enjoy playing cricket competitively, in good spirit, and for all spectators to watch exciting and nail-biting matches. Not least yesterday’s match – batting first, in a rain delayed game, we were struggling to score highly until Mikey Jefferiss came in at number 6 and scored 104 – we declared at 178 for 8 off 34 overs. Magnificent bowling from Jack A, Max, Craig, Lachie, great catches, stumping and fielding from Warren, Jack R, Jack A, Ben, Liam, Josh and Prad and Denby were all out for 156 off 31 overs. Congratulations to Jack Ritchie, the Captain and all the team, including those who couldn’t play yesterday and those who have played up during the season. We say goodbye to Lachie this week, thank him for his very valuable contribution to our success and wish him every happiness and success back in Frankston, Melbourne, Australia.
The 2nd and 3rd teams have provided their own kind of magic throughout the season and have given brilliant support to the 1sts by allowing players to play up, sometimes at very late notice. The 2nds came mid table in Div 7N and the 3rds, despite having to concede some matches, remain in Div 10C. Huge thanks go to all the captains, vice captains and managers for their amazing efforts each week – to Tom Boylan, Chris Howard, Ashley Spendlove, David Schofield, Mike Harwood, Neil Doxey, with especial thanks to Martin Kinder for overseeing and organising all three teams. It takes hours of work. And to our scorers – Jason, Jack, Keith and Gina and all groundsmen for keeping both grounds in magnificent order.
The End of Season Presentation Evening is on Saturday October 4th – tickets available on Pitchero or contact me directly. The AGM will be held in November.
